Beit HaEmek

Beit HaEmek (, ''lit.'' House of the Valley) is a kibbutz in northern Israel. Located in the western Galilee, it falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Asher Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 439.
The kibbutz was established in 1949. Its name is derived from that of the nearby Yemenite Jewish village of Amqa and the Biblical city of Beth-emek "included in Asher tribal allotment"〔Carta's Official Guide to Israel and Complete Gazetteer to all Sites in the Holy Land. (3rd edition 1993) Jerusalem, Carta, p.110, ISBN 965-220-186-3 (English)〕 mentioned in the Book of Joshua 19:27,〔Yizhaqi, Arie (ed.): Madrich Israel (Israel Guide: An Encyclopedia for the Study of the Land), Vol 2: Upper Galilee, Huleh Basin and Jordan Source Region, Jerusalem 1978, Keter Press, p.309 (Hebrew)〕 which was located 5 kilometres north-east of the kibbutz. The Kibbutz was built near the village of Kuwaykat.
