Located in the western Galilee, it falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Asher Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 439. The kibbutz was established in 1949. Its name is derived from that of the nearby Yemenite Jewish village of Amqa and the Biblical city of Beth-emek "included in Asher tribal allotment"〔Carta's Official Guide to Israel and Complete Gazetteer to all Sites in the Holy Land.
